My name is Ben, and I created this Substack primarily to share photos of birds and other wildlife.
I consider myself to be an amateur wildlife photographer. I try really hard, invest in some decent gear, and wake up early. But, I have a lot to learn. More often than not, my best photos come from chance wildlife encounters while I am driving or doing anything other other than looking for birds (which I do a lot). What you’ see on this Substack is primarily photos I take when birds find me.
I moved to Substack from Instagram primarily because I couldn’t have the app on my phone anymore. It was just too much of a waste of time (among other things). I am not on any sort of crusade, but I look forward to posting here outside of the algorithm soup of Meta and other social media platforms.
AI and Machine Learning Policy
All photos shared on this account were taken by me, in the wild, unless specifically noted otherwise. AI was not used to generate any images or text on this Substack.
I do frequently use Adobe Lightroom’s “denosie” feature, which uses machine learning to smooth out noise in photos taken at higher ISO values. I feel comfortable using this technology with my photos, and I don’t believe it interferes with the intent of each photo or misrepresents what is captured. Adobe has a fairly detailed writeup on how modern denoise works on their blog.
